Ingredients

  • 4 large-sized potatoes
  • Salt, 1 tsp
  • Butter, 3 tbsp
  • Sour cream, 2 tbsp
  • Milk, ½ cup + more if required
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh chives (chopped), 2 tbsp for garnish
  • Butter block (softened), for garnish

Preparation

  1. Fill a pot with water and add salt. Peel potatoes and cut into thick slices. Add to the pot.
  2. Set over med-high heat and bring to a boil. Cook for 20 minutes or until potatoes are fork tender. Drain and place potatoes in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Use a potato ricer to mash it up. Stir in milk, butter, and sour cream. Season with salt and pepper. Use a rubber spatula to combine everything. Add more milk to adjust consistency if required.
  4. Adjust flavors and add more salt and pepper if needed.
  5. Garnish with thinly chopped chives.
  6. Mashed potatoes are the most favorite vegetable side dish to accompany steaks. Serve immediately with a softened butter block on the top and enjoy!
