Making homemade Funfetti cinnamon rolls requires more effort than popping open a can of dough from your fridge, but you won’t regret spending extra time on these delicious buns.

Ingredients

Buns

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy both work well)
  • 1 pkt instant yeast
  • 2 cups Funfetti cake mix
  • 1 & ¾ cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp salt

Filling

  • 3 Tbsp butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup Funfetti cake mix
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Combine butter and milk in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for approximately 1 minute. Stir well, then microwave the mixture in 20-second intervals until the butter is fully melted. You want the mixture to be warm, not hot, or the milk will curdle.
  2. Combine milk mixture and yeast, then whisk to combine. Add the Funfetti cake mix, 1 & 1/2 cups flour, salt, and egg. Mix until a ball forms, then place a damp cloth over the bowl for 10 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle flour on a table or tray lined with wax or parchment paper, then flour a rolling pin. Roll the dough out into a rectangle, then spread the surface of the dough with the very soft butter. In a smaller bowl, combine the brown sugar, Funfetti mix, and cinnamon with a fork to blend. Spread this mixture over the flattened dough.
  4. Roll the dough tightly into a log, then use dental floss to slice it into circles. Place on pans, then cover the pans with damp towels for 20 to 30 minutes.
  5. Bake Funfetti cinnamon rolls for 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Top with glaze and sprinkles.
