Who doesn’t like waffles? Well, everyone does. But if you are on a strict diet and are craving for waffles, you don’t need to be sad about not getting some. This whole grain waffles recipe is for those looking to enjoy the delicious taste of waffles without the fatty stuff.
The best part about this breakfast recipe is that it is packed with energy and healthy ingredients that will keep you active in the morning.
Ingredients
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 (1/4-ounce) package active dry yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 3 tablespoons peanut oil
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 cups whole-wheat pastry flour
- 4 large egg whites
- Cooking spray for waffle iron
- Maple syrup, for serving
Preparation
- Add warm water into a large bowl and sprinkle yeast on top of it.
- Set it aside until it is foamy.
- Now add sugar, flour, buttermilk, and oil, and whisk until smooth.
- Cover the bowl with a plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator overnight.
- In a bowl, mix together the egg whites, oats, salt, and baking soda with the waffle mixture.
- Preheat a waffle iron and sprinkle cooking spray over it.
- Now add 1/3 cup of waffle batter into each side of the waffle-maker.
- Use the back of a spoon to even out the batter.
- Cook the batter until the waffles turn golden and crispy or the way you prefer them.
- Top your waffles with some maple syrup and enjoy.
