Ingredients
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp of baking powder
- 1/2 tsp of baking soda
- 1/2 tsp of salt
- 1 tsp of cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp of ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp of ground cloves
- 1/2 cup of butter (unsalted and cut into pieces)
- 1/2 cup of dates (chopped)
- 1 1/2 cups of applesauce (unsweetened)
- 1 tsp of vanilla
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups of apples (peeled and chopped)
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Use parchment paper to line a square, 9-inch baking dish.
- Combine baking powder, flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon in a bowl and place is aside.
- Place a pot, containing dates and butter, on a stove over medium-low heat.
- Add in butter and bring to a simmer.
- When the butter starts to give off a nutty smell, remove it from the stove, add vanilla and applesauce, and put it aside.
- Use an electric mixer to beat the eggs for 3 minutes on high.
- Incorporate 1/3 of the flour mixture to the egg mixture and stir to combine.
- Add 1/3 of the applesauce mixture and stir to combine. Repeat, until both the mixtures are incorporated into the egg mixture.
- Grease the pan with butter and bake for about 50 minutes.
- Take it out and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
- Cut and serve.
