Ingredients
- 1 cup of sharp white Cheddar (coarsely grated)
- 1 egg white (beaten)
- 1 tbsp of all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp of salt
- 2 9-inch-diameter (unroll and bake frozen pie crusts)
- 2 tbsp of butter (unsalted and sliced into 1/2-inch bits)
- 2/3 cup of dark brown sugar
- 5 Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and quartered)
- Butter to grease the pan
Preparation
- Place the oven rack on the bottom of the oven and preheat it to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
- Brush the sides and the bottom of 9-inch pie dish with butter
- Slice the apple into 3 wedges
- Combine cheese, apples, butter, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and salt in a bowl
- Place one unrolled pie crust into the dish and coat the inside of the pie crust with egg white
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust
- Place the second unrolled dough to cover the filling
- Pinch the top and edge of the crust to seal them together
- Fold the edge under and tuck
- Use egg white to brush the pie crust and make slits
- Bake the dish for an hour
- Allow it cool for 25 minutes before serving
