Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of confectioner’s sugar for the purpose of dusting
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons of white sugar
  • ½ cup of 2% milk
  • 1 cup of fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon of grated orange zest
  • 12 slices of French bread
  • 1/3 cup of chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup of melted butter
  • 1 cup of packed brown sugar

Preparation

  1. Take a small bowl in which you stir corn syrup, melted butter, and brown sugar together.
  2. Pour this mixture into a 9×13 inch greased baking dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the pecans on top of this.
  3. Arrange the slices of bread in the dish’s bottom in a single layer.
  4. Take a medium sized bowl and which eggs, egg whites, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, milk, orange juice, and orange zest together.
  5. Pour the mixture on top of the bread and press it on the slices so that it can absorb it.
  6. Cover and keep it in the refrigerator for about an hour or even overnight.
  7. Preheat oven to 175 degrees C. remove cover from baking dish and allow it to stand at room temperature for about 20 minutes.
  8. Bake for about 35 minutes until it is golden brown. Dust this with confectioners’ sugar before you serve.
